Even as owners, there aren’t any day-to-day headaches for surgeons having to also try to run the business. MAVI invests in highly experienced healthcare administrators (the good kind) to handle the operations, staffing and business aspects of the company. In fact, our leaders led the charge to combine the two groups, to become MAVI. Whatever negative stories you may have heard about private practices, that's not the way things are run at MAVI and our surgeons will attest to that fact. Since they are former hospital administrators, they know how to communicate in that language, how to cut through the hospital red tape and make sure MAVI surgeons receive the respect and compensation they deserve from our hospital partners.
Malpractice coverage, hospital appointments, reappointments, licenses, certifications, and membership renewals are all coordinated for physicians, so there’s no chance of anything falling through the cracks. MAVI covers all of these significant expenses for its surgeons.

Surgeons Retain Clinical Decision Making
MAVI surgeons retain autonomy in their clinical decision-making yet have the support of partner collaboration. From the inception of MAVI, years before a having a fellowship program was even thought of, the surgeons have been meeting every Friday morning at 7 a.m. for Clinical Conference. CEO Annette Small says this is where the magic happens. Surgeons bring cases that have gone well, that haven’t gone as expected and those they are preparing for and want input on.
Surgeons are able to work with any vendor based on the best choice product for that particular patient need. When a lower cost item is available and doesn’t impact patient care, of course they will work to keep healthcare costs down, but no third party is dictating that decision to them.
Additionally, the practice employs two private scrub techs. The scrub techs and an additional radiology tech also provide support in the Endovascular Suite, along with the 2-3 RNs who are staffed there depending on the day's patient volume. Each physician's clinic has an RN and MA assigned for support and they are also responsible for managing all patient calls and messages.
MAVI utilizes Athenahealth for its EMR and is recognized as a top performer among all Athena clients in several important financial collection categories. The Revenue Cycle staff works hard to ensure our surgeons are paid accurately and as swiftly as possible for all their hard work.
