Potential Questions

  • Who will I report to?

  • How will my performance be evaluated?

  • How often will I receive feedback and who will provide it? 

  • Will my compensation be reduced by any expenses (malpractice, overhead expenses, etc.)? If so, how much was that for current physicians in the practice? 

  • Who approves PTO requests and how is that handled when multiple physicians want the same days off? 

  • How are new patients assigned? 

  • What will I have to do to build a patient base?

Potential Contract Questions

  • When it is time to renew the contract what assurance do I have that I will continue to have a guaranteed salary? 

  • If it will move to an RVU model, who can explain how that works so I understand it?

  • How are RVU reports generated? What assurance do I have that it will be accurate? How would I be able to determine that? 

  • How many years do you renew contracts for? 

  • What would happen to my contract if the hospital is purchased? 

  • If I decide to leave employment, will I have access to contact my patients in case they want to follow me? 

It's no secret vascular surgeons are in high demand. Whether it's your first role out of fellowship or you're an experienced surgeon, there are a number of questions to ask a potential employer and many things in addition to salary that should be investigated and discussed. There are pros and cons to every employment situation, so being clear about what is most important to you is vital to making the best decision for you and your family. We make no assertions that MAVI is perfect, but we are honest about that, honest in what our compensation package is and will be into the future, open about relationships and our team approach that avoids the competition that erodes many relationships, etc. There are many questions you should ask, but we've offered some suggestions for you to consider and then by all means, make the decision that is best for you and your family after evaluating all offers and asking tough questions of all your potential employers. And always make certain you understand ALL the terms within your contract.
